I recently read there are two kinds of people in the world: Givers and Takers. The narrative went on to applaud the Givers and shame the Takers. Can it really be that simple? It made me question why we often look for simplicity at the cost of seeking effectiveness. Being able to divide everyone into two groups sure would be a neat and easy way to navigate. Being multilingual is an effective life skill. In my experience, it has created both personal and professional opportunity. As we raise our daughter to be multilingual, it’s useful to research the benefits of speaking multiple languages. It’s also necessary to assess whether our parental intentions are headed in an effective direction. This article is a result of my research into the benefits of multilingualism. Here’s the AudioVisual version to an article I wrote called Money Can’t Buy Happiness…Right?? Money can’t buy happiness. Money can’t make you happy. Too much money turns people evil. Rich people always take more and more from the noble and under-privileged poor. Sound familiar? Ever ponder why is it so common to hear these things? Is money actually evil? Does it turn us into hateful, money-hoarding zombies preying on the weak and helpless? Is money actually bad, are we just jealous of those who do have money, or is money a tool and it depends on us what we do with it?
